Poetry and prose: plurality
Plurality is the term critics have used most frequently when discussing Brazilian fiction and poetry in recent years. The extraordinary heterogeneity of the country’s literature today stems not only from a strong tradition built up throughout the twentieth century with its very varied output, but also from a sense of freedom to diverge from this tradition.

While heterogeneity is a commendable sign of fertility, the absence of decisive milestones capable of instating founding experiences could weaken and dissipate the body of work as a whole. Nonetheless, this does not prevent us from mapping out a number of topics and interests shared by authors with their own particular styles, vocabularies and strategies.
